Huishan Scenic Area now contents three state and one provincial intangible cultural heritage sites.
A. State intangible cultural heritage sites
Clay figurine (Huishan clay figurine)
Wuxi color figurine (Huishan clay figurine) was included in the first batch of intangible cultural heritage sites, originated from Huishan, Wuxi. Enjoying a long history, it is famous folk clay figurine and native product in Wuxi. The raw material is the black mud from three Chi deep in the rice field at the foot of Huishan Mountain. The making process is complex, including "eighteen crafts by hand-pinch". Representative works are Peach Assembly and Farewell to My Concubine, etc. Huishan clay figurines devote particular care to painting. It is said to "put much more emphasis on printing than figurine making". Huishan Da Afu got great reputation in China and overseas for its unique artistic figure, bright colors and strong local flavor.
Wuxi Liuqing Bamboo Carving
Wuxi bamboo carving is the essence of Jiangnan bamboo culture.
In 1914, Wuxi bamboo carvings won the second prize and bamboo board carving won the third prize in the Panama World Expo.
Wuxi bamboo carving is calligraphy, painting and sculpture on bamboo by knife on behalf of pen, integrating painting, poetry and seal.
In June 2008, Wuxi Liuqing Bamboo Carving was included in the first batch of extended state intangible cultural heritage project list.
Wuxi fine embroidery
Silk of the Wu area Wuxi was well-know in the Central Plains as early as in the Spring and Autumn period. For thousands of years, it has been embroidery on practical products, mainly on the themes of flower and fruit branches and auspicious patterns. "Fine embroidery" was formed in 1981. The representative work Silk Road was embroidered with 24 people, 21 camels, 4 horses, 5 little donkeys, 3 hounds and various utensils, all in very small size but clear even in subtle parts. The artistic characteristics of fine embroidery are mainly in small size, delicate design and exquisite craftsmanship.
In June 2008, Wuxi fine embroidery was included in the first batch of extended state intangible cultural heritage project list.
B. Jiangsu provincial intangible cultural heritage site
Huishan Temple Fair
Huishan temple is a folk custom and folk belief passed down in Wuxi City and towns around enjoying widespread mass foundation.
In May 2007, it was included in Wuxi municipal intangible cultural heritage sites. In 2009, it was included by the provincial government in Jiangsu provincial intangible cultural heritage sites. Huishan Temple Fair initiated from the Ming dynasty and got prosperous in the late Qing dynasty and the mid Republic of China. People pray for god’s blessing for peace and security and flourishing industries in the form of “Lord Temple Fair” and “Entertainment Gods Match”.
